Aluminium is widely available and it is replacing copper in the field of electrical engineering. Its conductivity is slightly less than copper but it is like cheap and easily available.

Specific resistance specific resistance of Aluminium is 1.64 times that of copper

Therfore, using aluminium winding increases the power loss.

The the use of aluminium conductor results in the reduction of rating by 22 %.

Even though aluminum wastes power, it is used for its light weight and ACSR transmission line cables.
