How to judge the quality of transformer core?
Transformer core is a key component of transformer, mainly composed of stacked silicon steel sheets. Silicon steel sheets have the characteristics of low hysteresis loss and high magnetic permeability, which can effectively reduce the energy loss of the core in the alternating magnetic field and improve the working efficiency of the transformer.
From a structural point of view, the core is divided into core type and shell type. The core core winding surrounds the core, which has a simple structure and is easy to manufacture. It is widely used in power transformers; the shell core is the core wrapped around the winding, with high mechanical strength, and is often used in special-purpose transformers.
During the operation of the transformer, the core plays a magnetic role, guiding the alternating magnetic flux to pass through, so that electromagnetic induction is achieved between the primary and secondary windings, thereby completing the voltage conversion. If the core quality is poor, such as insulation damage between silicon steel sheets, it will cause the core to overheat, increase losses, and even affect the normal operation of the transformer. Therefore, the material selection, manufacturing process and daily maintenance of the core are crucial to the performance and life of the transformer.

There are many aspects to judge the quality of the transformer core. In terms of appearance, the surface of high-quality iron core silicon steel sheets is smooth and flat, without obvious scratches, deformation and rust, with tight lamination and uniform gaps; inferior iron cores may have problems such as loose lamination and misalignment. In terms of performance parameters, the no-load loss and excitation current of the iron core can be tested by professional equipment. Low loss and small excitation current indicate that the iron core has good magnetic properties and good quality; otherwise, the quality is poor. Operating status monitoring is also critical. If the iron core makes abnormal noise or the temperature is too high during operation, it may be a problem with the quality of the iron core, such as damaged insulation of the silicon steel sheet and multiple grounding of the iron core, which needs to be checked in time.
