The core of the transformer - silicon steel sheet
Silicon steel sheet is the core raw material of the transformer core. It is a ferrosilicon alloy with a silicon content of 0.8% - 4.8%. The integration of silicon is the key to its excellent performance. From the perspective of characteristics, silicon significantly improves the resistivity. Compared with ordinary steel, it can greatly reduce the eddy current loss generated by the core under the alternating magnetic field, effectively reduce energy loss, and greatly improve the working efficiency of the transformer. At the same time, it also enhances the magnetic permeability, making the magnetic conductivity better and making the electromagnetic induction process more efficient.
In the production process, ferrosilicon alloy is generally obtained by smelting, and then made into thin sheets by hot rolling or cold rolling. Cold-rolled silicon steel sheets are divided into oriented and non-oriented types. Oriented silicon steel sheets have better magnetic properties in a specific direction and are mostly used in large power transformers with high requirements for magnetic properties; non-oriented silicon steel sheets have relatively uniform magnetic properties in all directions and are often used in equipment such as motors. With these unique properties and diverse types, silicon steel sheets occupy an indispensable position in the power industry.
