What Is Metal-Clad Switchgear?

Metal-clad switchgear is a higher-specification type of high voltage switchgear in which every main circuit component is enclosed in a separate, earthed metal compartment. The busbar, circuit breaker, cable and relay/instrument sections are physically isolated from one another, so a fault in one compartment is contained locally and maintenance can be performed on one circuit without de-energizing the entire switchboard.
