Outdoor Pad Mounted Transformer

A pad-mounted transformer is a specific type of housing for larger transformers that can be positioned in areas accessible to the general public. Common features of these transformers include tamper-resistant construction, tamper-proof nuts and screws, locked compartments with hinged doors, bottom entry of primary and secondary cabling, and baffled ventilation holes, if applicable.

In most cases, distribution transformers are found in residential developments. Unlike transformers at utility substations, where active contact points are exposed, this type of transformer has all active contact points encased in a grounded metal box, allowing it to be placed in residential areas without the need for fencing.

Outdoor pad-mounted transformers are available in power ratings ranging from 15 to 5000 kVA and often come with built-in fuses and switches. Elbow connections, which can be energized with a hot stick, provide flexibility in repair and maintenance by connecting primary power cables.

• The 3-phase outdoor pad-mounted transformer has a strong overload capacity. It can handle 2 times the overload for 2 hours and even 1.6 times the overload for 7 hours without affecting its service life.
• The 3-phase outdoor pad-mounted transformer uses an elbow plug connector, which makes it very convenient for connecting high-voltage incoming cables. It can also be used as a load switch in emergencies and can be plugged and unplugged under power.
• The 3-phase pad-mounted transformer is protected by double fuses. The plug-in fuse (BAY-o-net) is a dual-sensitive fuse (temperature and current) designed to protect against short-circuit faults on the secondary side. The backup current-limiting fuse (ELSP) protects against internal faults and is used to safeguard the high-voltage side.
• The 3-phase pad-mounted transformer can use either FR3 vegetable oil or mineral oil, depending on the specific requirements.
• The 3-phase outdoor pad-mounted transformer features a fully enclosed structure design, housing the windings, iron core, fuses, and high-voltage load switches within the oil tank.
